Business Owner Turns Her Love For Candles Into A Second Income Stream!

photo of debbie schubertMy sister-in-law, Kim Brandon, who is a distributor in Normal, IL, came to visit me in Phoenix, Arizona & brought me a Mia Bella candle. She knew I liked candles & I actually use votives in marketing for the collision repair shop that my husband, Bob & I have owned for 23 years. I really liked Mia Bella’s and got to thinking that if I got involved in selling them, I could buy candles "from me" instead of someone else!

I have a lot of contacts through our business & I know a lot of people, so I do the "smell test" on everyone that I come in contact with & people just love them & buy them. I went to a compound pharmacist, who uses only natural products in his compounds & I told him about the candles. He, and many of his clients are sensitive to smells so he asked me about an "unscented" candle. I took the unscented Mia Bella to him & told him that he really should try some of the other ones. He started smelling them. Not only did he LOVE all of them, they didn’t bother his allergies at all! He is going to become a distributor & carry them in his pharmacy for his clients.

I decided to invest in stocking one of each of the candles & then have a few more of the most popular ones on hand. Because I do not have the sample bag yet, I have a few of the candles with me most of the time & I give people brochures. If they want to smell one that I don’t have with me, then I stop back another day with the one that they wanted to smell. I stopped by an office the other day & the lady loved them & asked if she could buy 100 for her clients at Christmas!

At first I intended to focus solely on Mia Bella Candles but so many people asked me about the Bella Bars and Bella Wash that I ordered two cases of each of them!

I’m really excited about the fund raising aspect & helping organizations raise money. Today, I mailed about 60 fundraising packets out to schools, so I am anxious to see what kind of response that I get.

Scrap-booking is my hobby & I used to demo stickers & I had a bunch of money stickers that I often wondered what in the world I was going to do with them. On the outside of the envelopes that I mailed to the schools, I put a few of these money stickers on them to look more appealing!

I’ve only been doing this for a few weeks, but I feel like I’m doing pretty good & I’m having fun doing it! My enthusiasm shows & I feel fortunate that the candles sell themselves. Two people have signed up to be distributors so far & another one is seriously considering it. I think of anyone, whether I know them or not, & wonder if they would like the candles or be able to use them in their business. My list of people & ideas is endless – now it is just finding the time to get to all of them!

Another Great Home Party Story!

I had a booth at a local festival a few weeks ago and did close to $800 in business. A customer from that booth called me a week later to tell me that Mia Bella candles were the best she had ever burned and she asked when I could do a home party for her!

I scheduled the party and she had 12 guests. I was prepared to do a presentation. The women just walked over to my displays, started smelling the candles and paying me! The only questions that I had to answer were:

a. How much are they?
b. Do you have any more of (certain scents) with you?
c. Do you live here in Oklahoma?

No presentation, no pitch, just FAST selling! I sold 24 jars, 14 votives and 2 Bella Bars in an hour! Then the hostess even helped me load the remaining items back into my truck! I gave the hostess 2 free candles, and she has ordered 2 more! I walked away with $549.00. NOT BAD!

Thanks for having such a great product!

Internet Marketing Pro Chooses Scent-Sations!

photo of kelly landI am the 37-year old mom of two great kids. Ryan 9 and Katie 3. I've been happily married for 12 years to Jon. I was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana. I earned a four year degree in Radio-TV-Film and have worked as a radio personality for 7 years.

I decided to stay home and work on my website's full time in Feb 2002. I'm currently enjoying the success of all of my website's. It's been hard work that has finally paid off, but a real labor of love. Staying home allows me to spend more time working on my music and having fun with the kids.

1. What and who got you interested in doing home based business?

I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I did Avon for 7 years, however the market was so saturated I found it unfulfilling. Candles are a real passion for me, and they always have been even back before the huge craze.

2. What kind of marketing techniques did you use and what kind do you currently use. If they are different, what made you change?

I use my website's to promote plus many other tried and true methods, both offline and online. Sticking to one marketing approach is excellent, but fine tuning many facets in that area is also a good thing. KNOW where and what you are getting for your marketing dollars. Tracking this info is priceless. It saves so much heart-ache and disappointment. It also saves you from throwing your budget in the wrong direction.

I test the waters with tiny bites, seeing what works and what doesn't. Online advertising can be very tricky. I read marketing research and trends like a mad-woman! Most of us don't have HUGE promotion budgets. It pays to track every penny. If you paid $20 for a monthly ad, and you got 7 leads out of it and 1 recruit or party, then I'd say that $20 was well spent.
That's $2.85 a lead, and that one recruit or party will garner more than $20 for sure! So you come out ahead.

I research home based businesses for a living. I'm always snooping and uncovering the latest companies. I rarely endorse anything. It has to be solid and worthwhile. Scent-Sations Inc fit all my criteria:

-Great Comp Plan
-Reasonable Prices
-Support
-Good financial standing
-Fabulous, consumable products

3. How did you find Scent-Sations and what was the reason you chose to come into this company?

I had been with another start up candle company that wasn't challenging me in the way I wanted it to. The mutual benefit just wasn't there. So I started looking again to find another company that met my tougher and more stringent criteria. Scent-Sations did. Plus, being a candle fanatic, I had to keep searching! I was driven like Cinderella and the glass slipper. This time it had to be THE perfect fit.

4. Where do you see your self in the next 5 years?

I dream of making it in two distinct areas: music and marketing! A huge dream of mine would be that my first music CD would be finished and accepted into the music world and I become a "known" in that world.

I hope for continued success for my website's, and that they continue to provide folks with the info they are looking for in their search for work at home. I also see myself training, supporting and helping my candle team and selling A LOT of these fabulous candles. In doing so, the financial rewards will have me capable of moving my family back to Indiana where we can spend time with the rest of our family, friends and relatives that we miss so much since we moved away 9 years ago.

"Hot Shot Rookies" Show Up As "Top Gun Recruiters" In Month #1!

April Mallon Diamond in first 14 days!!!

I got involved with Scent-Sations because of my parents, Lise and John MacFadden. They went to the Spring Convention and came home "EXCITED" about this new candle company. They started signing up so many people and they kept telling me that I’ll never find anything that was as much fun and as easy to make part time or even BIG Time income with!

I recently got married and the thought of staying home and making money appealed to me. My mom explained the power and potential with a business like Scent-Sations, I and knew right then and there that I had to get INVOLVED!

I signed up in Mid July and I sponsored seven new distributors. One of them was a girl I work with, one was a family member and the rest came from Mom and Dad’s Burn And Earn auto responder program. The auto responder program really appealed to me because I’m able to talk to people from all over the USA immediately!

When my Candle of the Month Package arrived I gave out the votives with a brochure and price list. People wanted MORE! I love the fact that you can retail candles for money PLUS build that long term residual income that lets you stay home and have fun while you earn and burn!

"TOP GUN" JACKIE ULMER AND HER "MOM TEAM" ARE HAVING FUN IN THE SUN & BUILDING THEIR BUSINESSES TOO!

Photo of Jackie Ulmer & Family

When I started my Network Marketing Career, I was told by many that summer was typically a slower time for building the business, and so not to expect too much. And, so, guess what? I EXPECTED my business to slow down and so it did!

A few years later, looking around, I would see people breezing through summer with no slowdown whatsoever and big momentum going into the fall. I decided right then to change my beliefs!

Summer is only going to be a slow time in your business if YOU slow down, and if you believe that it is supposed to slow down.

One of the first things I have learned to do in order to keep my business momentum going during the summer months is prioritize my calendar VERY carefully. My children are home and I want them to enjoy a fun, busy summer. So, we plan out weekly what we will be doing and when. And, I make sure business time is plotted in on that calendar. I do the fun stuff FIRST, and then I can easily say to the kids "Look, we had a great time at the beach yesterday, and now I need to get some work done today." At ages 9 and 11, they understand this better than they did at 2 and 4!

I take my business with me as much as possible, meaning I carry my folder of "active prospects" and my cell phone with me and ALWAYS make a few calls from the beach, hockey practice, or wherever I might be. I can squeeze a lot in with a few minutes here and there, and I am modeling for my prospects that this is a LIFESTYLE business.

Because I use the Internet as a primary tool for building my business, it is working for me 24/7, whether I am home or not. The great thing about this is that my physical presence is not required to give a business overview, or even answer basic questions. I can play all day, and come home later and pull off all of the leads generated and follow up by email late in the evening, and make calls the next day. So, my marketing efforts stay pretty much the same all year. I take steps in the Spring to have advertising and links out there.

Creating leaders is the key to duplication and success in this business, so I teach my team the exact steps that I take to build my business and hold a weekly coaching call, as well as a New Members call, in order to get people off to a fast start and on the right foot. We have an email discussion group in order to share ideas, offer suggestions, etc. This also is a BIG help in freeing up time for all of us. Using the team effort, we all count on each other. If I am off on vacation, and have a new partner, he/she can email questions to the group and get back lots of answers and ideas. This also gets a new person involved, as many new people bring fresh ideas that can benefit everyone.

Attrition is low in our group because we provide these tools, as well as many other training tools accessible online, so a new person has access to just about anything they might need, even if it's 2 in the morning! I aspire to send a personal email welcome and/or phone call to each new team member, introducing myself and offering my assistance.

Because we have such an awesome system at Scent-sations, we can put cash in the new members pocket from day one if he/she is ready to take action and we have exactly what is needed to coach and train them in whatever method they aspire to. It is my desire to NEVER have someone on my team quit because they felt that support and training was not available at every turn.

And, with such a great product, it's a snap to "Smell and Sell" all through the summer at different events. I always carry samples and try to incorporate the product into my life as much as possible. We have a local weekly jazz festival and I like to bring a candle to burn on the table, and of course, that creates interest, questions and sales!

I am quite "jazzed" myself at the incredible growth we are experiencing as a company and by the caliber of seasoned Networking Professionals who are giving us a serious look and joining our ranks. We've enjoyed an awesome summer season, and I look for HUGE momentum as we enter the "official" candle season…Fall!

Expect Success!

Photo of Lisa Schulte's SonsAfter many other businesses, I found Mia Bella candles online and knew right away that this was for them. My 2 oldest boys wanted jobs, but a busy music schedule prohibited that. I knew that the family could work together, make money, and the kids would learn about being entrepreneurs. I also knew the tax deductions were huge!

Benjamin, 11, and Nathan, 9, help with inventory, labeling, and getting people interested in coming into the booth to smell the candles. Timothy, 17, is the "muscles" of the business. He helps setup at shows and carries boxes in and out of the van. Jeffrey, 14, likes being the salesman and has sold hundreds of candles at shows. Tim and Jeffrey are anxious as they will be signing up for their own distributorship this month. They know they will build a successful business for their future!

Mia Bella is great business for families and we thank Charlie and Bobby for creating such a family friendly business. We look forward to meeting them at the convention!
-Lisa Schulte, MO

I consider myself a "part-timer" in Scent-Sations simply because I am a "full timer" when it comes to being a MOM! Being in network marketing for over 5 years, I immediately recognized the potential of this company and its incredible products. Like so many others who are now distributors for this company, I also LOVE candles so the decision to "make money" with them was the easiest business decision I've ever had to make!

The Team Support that is available through my incredible up line and sideline makes this a dream business. It really motivates me to build my team because I know they will also be in great hands with the support that is here!

I chose network marketing because I want to be there for my husband and kids, and Scent-Sations is, "hands down," the best choice out there for any mom who has that same desire!"

photo of deb warrenAs a stay at home mom with an entrepreneurial spirit, I was delighted to find Scent-Sations. This company embraces family values and involvement which enables me to keep my children as my top priority while I’m building a thriving business. Together, we’re having fun sharing the candles, learning new skills and feeling the joy of our accomplishments. Besides, who can resist a one year old boy holding an Angel Wings votive while his four year old sister asks, "Want to smell one of my candles?

Stories from "Top Gun Retailers"

My best friend emailed me for a few months and I ignored her "pleas" to try Mia Bella candles. She knew I was a big fan of one of those BIG NAME candle companies.

I finally relented and let her bring some over. I bought a Mia Bella Tequila Sunrise candle and burned it for a few hours and I was SOLD!

I signed on as a distributor and ordered the sampler case because I wanted to have product to SELL! I took the products to work and they all sold within 7 days. I’ve been stocking up on votives and they are selling very fast. The Bella Buns are one of those kind of products that you don’t have to say anything about…simply put them in front of people and after they are done oooohing and awwwing and sniffing…they BUY!

I’ve booked 3 home parties already and I am having FUN with this!

Scent-Sations is a Family Affair!

Our five daughters: Elizabeth (15), Alexandra (13), Patricia (11), Victoria (10) and Katherine (4) are all involved in our candle business. The older three help with calls and sales, while Victoria helps organize and label the candles. Four year old Katherine is always there to help and loves being involved with the "family business!" My husband, David, as well as our two sons Michael (17) and Bradford (8) haul, move, set up, smell and sell candles with us as well.

Liz, Alex and I attended Debbie Campa's open house while Bob Schmitz was in Florida and it was just wonderful. We had a great visit with Mimi and her mom; and it was such a pleasure to see that this business is something that entire families can do!

I have no doubt that someday my girls will be able to get a job somewhere if they would ever need one, but what I want for them is to have an entrepreneurial spirit so they can build a business from their homes when they are on their own; and right now Sent-Sations is a great opportunity for them to learn those skills necessary for success. They are willing to learn, and Debbie has been a very willing coach; and they are utilizing what they learn with tangible results. The product is great and it is so encouraging for them see our business grow.

Distributor of the Month is Also Part of Jackie Ulmer's "Mom Team!"

photo of stacey foxMy Scent-Sations business has grown far beyond what I expected could happen, given my life schedule! I would have loved to have more free time to work my Scent-Sations business, so it has come as a very pleasant "shock" at how easy it has been to retail, fund raise AND sponsor new people into the business despite my hectic schedule.

Besides taking care of my son during the day, I am working nights, going to school, and I recently moved. Luckily, in my new home, I can have an entire room dedicated to by business, which is so nice to have. While I was supposed to be "off" the week that I was moving, I had so many orders and re-orders it
was almost hard to keep up!

I had my best show ever so far at the beginning of July. Just a local fair, but the response to our products was fantastic! I had customers come from customers I had the day before telling them that they had to come to my booth to buy candles. I had 3 COTM sign-ups, and 2 home parties booked already from that one show. Not even to mention that I sold out of about 10 scents completely.

I have also decided to branch off the typical craft show aspect of my business by working the bridal show network too. The response from brides has been overwhelming. Our votive roses really go over well as a shower or wedding favor. By just one show I have contacts and orders that will be steadily coming in for the rest of the year. I am very excited about other bridal shows that I have booked later in this year and into next year.

Every show I have, my sales just keep getting higher and higher. I feel so blessed that I decided to give this company a try. Because of my business, my family was able to move out of our town home and buy our first single family home. I am ready to give my notice at my current employment because I am getting enough income to support the salary that I have at my job selling these products. The independence that I will gain from having this business is priceless.
-Stacey Fox, MD

Editor Note: 23 year old Stacy Fox joined Scent-Sations Inc in February, 2005, and in her first full month as a distributor she was our #1 retailer, was in the top gun recruiters section and earned our highest rank (Diamond!).
